Horseracing enthusiasts are spoiled for choice – Catterick, Sedgefield, Thirsk, Wetherby, Ripon, York, Beverley, Pontefract and Doncaster all within easy reach.
There are lelsure facilities and/or swimming pools in Northallerton, Richmond, Thirsk and Catterick. Helmsley boasts an open air pool during the summer months (mid June to early September).There's canoeing, diving, walking and sailing at nearby Ellerton Lakeside.
Cinemas are located in the former station building at Richmond, at Thirsk (run by volunteers), Darlington and Teesside.
Fishermen bring your rods – there’s fishing galore! As well as man made lakes, fish abound in the River Swale. Closest spot is Morton on Swale just a couple of miles away. Or further away you can fish the upper waters of the Swale – tickets £6 per day from the Richmond & District Angling Club.
Nearest golf course is at Romanby, but others include at Bedale, Thirsk, Catterick.
