Horseracing enthusiasts are spoiled for choice – Catterick, Sedgefield, Thirsk, Wetherby, Ripon, York, Beverley, Pontefract and Doncaster all within easy reach.
There are lelsure facilities and/or swimming pools in Northallerton, Richmond, Thirsk and Catterick. Helmsley boasts an open air pool during the summer months (mid June to early September) – but check first, they may be refurbishing.
Cinemas are located in the former station building at Richmond, at Thirsk (run by volunteers), Darlington and Teesside.
Fishermen bring your rods – there’s fishing galore! As well as man made lakes, fish abound in the River Swale. Closest spot is Morton on Swale just a couple of miles away. Or further away you can fish the upper waters of the Swale – tickets £6 per day from the Richmond & District Angling Club.
Nearest golf course is at Romanby, but others include at Bedale, Thirsk, Catterick.
